I’M CHECKING OUT THE NEW SITE FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND I’M NOT SURE WHERE ANYTHING IS?
While every effort has been made to simplify the 2011 version of Southern Fried Hockey, it may take some getting used to. The latest post does what it says on the tin, and is the newest article on the site. Beside that, you’ll see the recent posts section, which displays the next newest five posts in order.
The third section, called featured stories, comprises a cople of hand-picked articles that may not be as recent as the others, but are relevant for other reasons; they may be generating a lot of comments, for instance, or they could be feature-length interviews with players that are relevant reading at anytime. Or they could be something important that got submerged among other articles in a busy week!
Thereafter, things should hopefully be pretty straightforward. There are drop-down lists for specific categories plus results and league tables, and the polls section is now placed beneath the recent posts. The right-hand sidebar has been de-cluttered to include the basics; Twitter, YouTube and Facebook buttons, links to sister site Irish Hockey Photographers and The Hook, as well as the site’s donate button. The recent comments section shows which stories are generating the most debate, and the hockey links drop-down menu allows you to navigate to various Irish hockey club and branch websites.
I’M LOOKING FOR AN ARTICLE FROM A WHILE BACK, BUT I CAN’T FIND IT! HELP!
First things first; if you know the subject matter of the article, type a keyword (a name of a player or club, for instance) into the search box in the site’s top right hand corner. Alternatively, check out the categories drop-down menu to narrow down the scope of what you’re looking for, or failing that, check out the archives page.
HOW DO I KEEP UP WITH SOUTHERN FRIED HOCKEY VIA SOCIAL MEDIA?
Easy peasy. You can check out our Facebook and YouTube sites, Alan’s Twitter page and our RSS feed (if you’re not sure what this is, trust us, you don’t need to waste time finding out!) using the link buttons in the sidebar. If you’d like to share a particular article on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter – or just to ‘like’ it on Facebook – you’ll find a handy little toolbar to the left of the article you’re reading that follows you up and down the page. You can now also choose to comment on articles using your Facebook or Twitter account; no need to fill in the usual form or supply an email address.
THOSE PHOTOGRAPHS YOU USED ARE REALLY NICE – WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON THEM?
Our sister site Irish Hockey Photographers is the go-to site for all things snapper-related. You can purchase prints of the pictures in a variety of sizes, and even get them printed on a t-shirt, keyring or mug.
