What age groups do the Southern Fried Hockey Academy camps provide for?
We have run camps for all ages and typically we split children into junior (10-13yrs) and senior (14-16yrs), except for specialist skill camps, which are uniformly for 14-18-year-olds.
What times do the camps run from?
A typical 2-day, 3-day or week-long camp will run from 10am until 2pm every day, but this is subject to change. Specialist one-day clinics are rarely more than three hours in duration and may take place in the morning or afternoon.
How do I book a place?
Click on the relevant event page, select the type of ticket you require and click on the ‘order now’ button – you will be taken to a new page with the booking and payment forms.
Do I need to have any previous hockey experience?
No, we cater for all ages and abilities. Groups will be established in the first morning to ensure children of similar abilities are grouped together.
Do I have to go for the full number of days at the camp?
No, however we encourage full attendance as the camp aims to develop skills and techniques over the week. In addition we plan games and competitions throughout the week. We appreciate that some people will not be able to attend all the days, so we provide a facility where you can choose which days you wish to attend.
Can I drop my children off early in the morning?
Coaches will be present at the camp venue half an hour prior to the official start time, so participants can be dropped off then. If you need to drop your child off earlier than this, plase contact us in advance so we can arrange to have a coach on-site at the relevant time.
What do we need to bring?
Every child needs to bring their own packed lunch and lots of fluids, especially water and juices. Equipment-wise, children should bring a hockey stick, mouth guard and shinguards – the Southern Fried Hockey Academy requires that children wear the correct safety equipment at all times during the camp. Warm outdoor clothing and outdoor footwear – astro-turf shoes are preferable – should also be brought.
Who will be coaching at the camps?
Our coaches are young, enthusiastic and of Division 1 playing standard, and many have underage international experience with Ireland too. The maximum ratio of coach to players at this clinic will be 1:10. This ensures that every child gets individual coaching throughout the week and also helps to control the children effectively.
Can I sign my child up to a camp on the day?
Yes, provided the camp is not already full. However, due to the increased adminiatration costs of doing so, an extra charge will apply. Please bear in mind you can usually sign up online up until the first morning of the camp.
Can I get a refund if my child cannot attend a camp?
