Nerves frayed but good times await

It’s been a whirwind week for Ireland U18 captain Rebecca Barry. There was barely time for the Limerick girl to receive her Leaving Certificate results yesterday and celebrate with her peers before she had to pack up her life and leave for a new start in the USA, having received a scholarship to play hockey at the University of Richmond in Virginia. The 18-year-old former Catholic Institute starlet will be keeping a diary for the Southern Fried Hockey Academy about her experiences Stateside; in her first entry, she describes the nervy build-up to the big departure day.

Irish masters seek Munster input

The Irish Women’s O45s Masters team have issued a rallying call for Munster players to get involved with them. On the eve of a masters competition in Wales this weekend, team member Helen Johnston of Railway Union outlined plans to expand the masters setup into two teams – an over-40s and over-45s side – with greater involvement from around the provinces.
