Herbert receives Ireland A call-up

Cork C of I’s Andy Herbert is among a raft of new additions to the Ireland A squad announced by coach Paul Revington today. Revington, who has also brought Peter Caruth and Gareth Watkins into the senior squad, has added 11 players to the A squad, allowing them to fight for selection for June’s Celtic Cup and the games against France A in July. C of I midfielder Herbert is the sole Munster-based selection, as he is rewarded for his consistent form in the Garryduff outfit’s engine room this term. As predicted by Southern Fried a few weeks ago, Reading’s Chris Cargo also gets a call-up having impressed for senior interpro winner Ulster after coming in as a late replacement for David Ames, whose elbow injury has opened the international door for Jonny Bruton once more. Another to impress at the interpros, the forward will travel to Alicante with the senior squad later this month for a warm weather camp. Timmy Cockram is also out with a broken finger, meaning recent new cap Michael Maguire of Three Rock will also travel.
