Ireland’s U18 girls produced the result of the weekend to resoundingly thump Scotland 4-0 at Belfield, ending their three-game series without defeat. Deirdre Duke’s nifty reverse got Ireland underway on 20 minutes, before Gillian Pinder did likewise with 20 to go. Katie Codyre latched onto Anna-Mae Morton’s through ball to put away a one-on-one before Duke completed the rout on 62 minutes. The Irish had previously drawn 1-1 with the Scots on Saturday – Chloe Watkins’ reverse opener on 60 minutes the highlight – and won 4-2 on Friday night against an under-strength Scots outfit with Hermes starlet Watkins again to the fore with two goals. Ireland’s U16 girls finished off a good day for underage hockey when Joanne Orr’s strike proved enough for a 1-0 win over England, following Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate that saw Chloe Brown on target, and Friday night’s 3-2 defeat. Munster’s Rebecca Barry was among the best performers today, seeing a shot cleared off the line in the first half. *For more of Adrian Boehm’s pictures from Ireland U18 girls vs Scotland, click here and here.
