The IHA has recently launched its online Player Participation survey aimed at providing a better understanding of how hockey players regard the sport. The survey which will have separate sections for both underage and adult players (past and present) is being designed to provide a greater awareness of the attractions and weaknesses of hockey as perceived by its participants.
It will highlight areas where the IHA, its Branches, Clubs, Schools and others can concentrate their resources to make the game more attractive to its current and future players. The findings from the survey will be made publically available via forums which will be scheduled in each province.
The survey aims to answer questions such as:
– What are the drawbacks of playing hockey?
– If players are lost to other sports, why?
– What are the positives of hockey we should be building on?
The IHA is encouraging all players, schools, colleges/universities and clubs to help promote and complete the survey. Speaking on the launch of the survey, National Development Officer Fiona Mills said: “The IHA has never undertaken a survey of this scale before and we are very much encouraging players of all ages and all levels to complete the survey. The greater the participation the more credible the findings will be, leading to greater awareness as to how hockey should be developed in future.”
