Munster Masters back on interprovincial stage

Munster will send two squads to the revamped Masters Interprovincials, which will take place over two days at Lisnagarvey HC this weekend.

Although the staging of the tournament in Ulster proved prohibitive in terms of player availability, the efforts of manager Mark Stockil and coach Stuart Egner have borne fruit with the province set to compete at the O40 and O45 men’s levels. Many players are set to double up for the weekend, but players have come from near and far – there are representatives based in Reading, Galway and Athlone in the panels – to don the red shirt this weekend. The squads participated in two friendly games against the Munster U18 boys in April and May, which finished in a 2-2 draw and a 6-5 victory as both sides attempted different combinations. The O45s squad is captained by former Irish international Ger Burns of Bandon, while another decorated player, Alan Bateman of Cork Harlequins, will head up the )40 side’s efforts.
