C of I labour to Bandon win as Quins left idle again
Cork Harlequins and Cork C of I both have plenty to worry about ahead of the start of their Irish Hockey League campaigns next month, following a topsy-turvy weekend.
Quins and UCC look to make their mark
It’s Irish Senior Cup time for UCC and Quins, who face IHL-quality opponents in Ards and Old Alex respectively, while Catholic Institute’s visit to The Mardyke is the pick of the men’s league action this weekend.
Munster well represented in Irish training squads
The training panels for the four Irish underage squads have been finalised, as the U16 sides prepare for a European adventure next summer while the U18s build towards their 2010 international schedule.
Wild west wins for Quins
Quins men and women both came away from Bandon with the spoils, while Institute’s victory over C of I B provided more evidence of their resurgence. The goals continued to flow for the women of UCC and Institute, with Miriam Crowley (pictured above) one of six players to hit doubles, but C of I’s women’s IJC campaign is over after a home loss to Galway.
C of I C continue to blaze a trail
Cork C of I’s unstoppable form continued in the men’s Division 2 this weekend, as they left Limerick rooted to the bottom of the table with a 7-2 win at Garryduff, while Quins lead the way in the women’s Division 2 after a 4-2 home win over Ashton.
Bandon seek to shock ‘rusty’ Quins
Bandon will be hoping to take advantage of Cork Harlequins’ rustiness and injury problems to take a noteworthy Peard Cup scalp in a repeat of last season’s final at Bandon Grammar School tomorrow (1.30pm).
