UCD tests for Munster sides
University College Dublin will get an early indication of where their elite player programme is taking them as they send both their men’s and women’s sides to Munster for Irish Senior Cup clashes tomorrow.

It was an afternoon of near misses in the women’s league – while the men’s was anything but – as Catholic Institute, Cork Harlequins and Bandon all prevailed by the minimum margin in nip and tuck affairs.

Bandon gave Cork Harlequins an almighty scare during today’s Peard Cup clash at a foggy Farmer’s Cross, eventually prevailing 3-2 thanks to a David Eakins golden goal. Elsewhere, maiden senior level goals for a number of players were the main plus points on another day of lop-sided results in the Munster men’s league.

University College Cork’s new-look side couldn’t have asked for a tougher league campaign opener than a trip to tackle champions Catholic Institute at Rosbrien tomorrow (1.30pm).
UL revel in shock Quins raid
As shocks in Munster hockey go, this was more full-blown earthquake than minor tremor. University of Limerick captain Steph Peters had promised her side would be more competitive this term, but she couldn’t possibly have imagined they’d start the campaign with a 2-1 away win over Cork Harlequins.
