Bruff do the double again

Bruff’s upward mobility has continued apace this term, with the club securing a league and cup double for the second successive year.   Having annexed both league and cup in the women’s Division 6 last term, the Co Limerick outfit have done likewise at Division 5 level this time around, confirming promotion with three games to spare and dropping just a point all year. They took on Mallow on Saturday’s Div 5 Cup final at Ballincollig, coming from behind to win a thriller 3-2 with a Deirdre Fiztgerald golden goal. Catriona Casey popped up at the back post to convert the opener but Mallow weren’t long in levelling from a short corner, before going in front themselves before the break. Emily Scully equalised during the second period for Bruff, while some stout defending at both ends kept the stalemate intact until six minutes into extra time when Fitzgerald struck. Skipper Ireney McCormack was presented with both trophies after the game.
