Southern Fried Hockey is pleased to announce the arrival of new “elite” hockey camps in Munster, starting in February 2014.
Having established ourselves as the most popular provider of hockey camps in the province over the past two years – more than 700 players attended our 10 camps in Cork, Limerick and Clonmel in 2013 – SFH has some exciting new changes planned.
Firstly, based on our own experiences plus feedback from players, parents and the views of our coaches, we will be experimenting in February by holding separate camps to better serve the needs of participants at varying stages of their development as hockey players. In Cork, these will be run at separate dates and venues, while the Limerick camps will run concurrently at the same venue.
Secondly, we will now divide camps by school year group rather than age, in order to better streamline groups based both on their experiences in the sport.
The new Elite Camps will cater for players from 2nd year – 5th year and take place on February 17 & 18 at Garryduff Sports Centre and February 20 & 21 at Villiers School, Limerick. Participants will spend more time with fewer coaches and have increased room to work on the more advanced tactical, technical and matchplay skills they will need as they make the transition to senior club hockey, move up the leagues and aim to get selected for Munster and Ireland.
The Junior Camps will cater for players from 1st class – 1st year and take place on February 20 & 21 at Cork Harlequins and Villiers School. The focus will be on basics and games for the younger players, while the older ones will get introductions to some more testing skills to help them transition from small-sided matches to the 11-a-side version – all while retaining the fun element that underpins the Southern Fried Hockey ethos.
The cost of attending is €40 for one child or €60 for two children and applies across both camps. Further discounts are available for groups and for those who attended at Halloween – just ask us! Both camps will run from 10am to 2pm, and bookings can be made from now on via the following methods:
