A number of big guns look set to fall at the next hurdle of the men’s Irish Senior Cup in a fortnight’s time after six of the country’s top sides were paired together in the last 16.
The pick of the clashes is likely to be holders Pembroke Wanderers’ trip to Garryduff to meet Cork Church of Ireland. Two of the best sides in the country on paper, neither has been firing on full cylinders so far this season, but both are littered with internationals and like to mix style with substance.
Cork Harlequins are also likely to face a hockey powerhouse as they await the victors of the rearranged Raphoe/Banbridge tie, but will have home advantage for the February 7 clash, while Lisnagarvey’s tussle with Annadale is the other glamour tie of the round.

Glenanne and Three Rock Rovers must negotiate tricky trips to North Down and Bangor respectively, while Ulster champions Cookstown must travel to Dublin again to meet Fingal following their 4-3 win over Monkstown.
An ever-improving Corinthian side, boosted by South African imports Darren Cronje and Andrew Kimfley, will start as favourites against Railway Union, while NICS travel to Mossley.
The women of Cork C of I will be looking for some tips from neighbours Quins as they travel to Ballymoney in round two of their ISC competition, completing a trio of unpalatable draws for Munster sides.
Quins went down 6-3 to ‘Money on Saturday as last season’s beaten finalists finally found some form, and Phil Oakley’s side will hardly be enthralled by the prospect of making the trek to Co Antrim.
Belfast Harlequins are the only other side who have to travel outside their own province as they go to Pembroke Wanderers, while UCD’s dubious reward for their penalty strokes victors over Hermes is an assignment at fellow Leinster big guns Loreto.
Railway Union – conquerors of UCC – face Old Alex and Corinthians host Glenanne in two other all-capital affairs, while Ulster are guaranteed at least three quarter-finalists as Lurgan were drawn against Armagh, Ulster Elks lock horns with Lisnagarvey and title holders Pegasus make their competition bow away to Randalstown.

I feel very confident in c of i think they can go all the way and win another irish senior cup!
Now there’s an optimistic Quins fan! Thing is he’s actually right!!
Quins and Ci both face tricky ties with Pembroke and most likely Banbridge.Its a hard one to call in both games but home advantage maybe the key in both these games.As for Ci winning the Senior Cup, I believe they need to tighten up their defence and hope Jermyn produces the goods with the drag flicks.A lot of good teams left from Leinster and Ulster so it is hard to say at such an early stage of the competition.
i think Quins are dark horses to win and after getting out of there recent slump with a fantastic win in belfast i would quietly fancy them to be there or there about’s at the end

Pembroke have too much fire-power for CI. Take JJ out of it and CI are like a limp mongrel chasing their own tails. Quins are past their sell-by date. To be there or there abouts? does that mean quarters?? semis?? Expect them to be competitive but nothing else.

Ci and Pembroke will be a very interesting game and will be a hard one to call like a lot of the other big games but to say C of I are a top 3 side in Ireland is a bit much.They havent won the senior cup since 1999 and the club championships in 2003.They didnt even get out of their club championships group last year and havent been in the mix in the last few years in the senior cup either.Yes,they have had good wins this year against Fingal and Monkstown but there hardly the best teams in Ireland.Saturday will be a big game for them to see can they really beat a big Leinster team!!!
