Quins facing potential last eight away day

The quarter-final draw for the men’s Irish Senior Cup was made earlier today, but clubs still only have a vague idea of who they might be facing in the last eight since the weather has decimated the competition thus far. The picture should become clearer provided this weekend’s re-fixtures go ahead as planned. However, Munster’s only remaining representatives, Cork Harlequins, are yet to find out their round two opposition, as Banbridge’s first-round tie at Raphoe has yet to be played. Should they progress, they will have to travel to the winner of Fingal’s tie with probable Ulster champions Cookstown. The IHA explained the reasoning for announcing the draw relatively early: “It has been released early in order to give clubs as much notice as possible of potential away games should they progress through after this weekend. “There is only now one week between the remaining round two matches and the quarter-final matches, as dates had to be reset due to the adverse weather conditions experienced over the last few weeks.” A potential Leinster derby is on the cards given Glenanne should see off North Down, though whether Three Rock Rovers can oust Bangor – unbeaten at home all season – to complete the glamour tie remains to be seen. As they only side already into the last eight, Pembroke can see what lies ahead of them as Ulster duo Mossley and NICS meet at the weekend, while the reward for the winner of the big one up north – Lisnagarvey’s clash with Annadale – is a home tie against either Corinthian or Railway Union.
