More than a dozen stars of the future will make their bow for Munster at interprovincial level this year, after a new-look U16 girls squad was named for the 2010/11 interpros on October 16/17. With just five girls, including skipper Acacia Taylor of Cork Harlequins, returning from last year’s side, coach Liz Raleigh and her management team have a young side at their disposal this time around. The squad is 18-strong, featuring 16 outfield players and two goalkeepers, while three more players have been named as non-travelling reserves for the tournament, which will take place at Alexandra College in Milltown, Dublin.

Taylor is one of two players – along with Ashton’s Kate Harvey – with significant first-team senior club experience in their armoury, and will naturally provide a primary goalscoring threat. Both players return from last year, with midfield trio Alex O’Grady (C of I), Clodagh Moloney (Catholic Institute) and Shauna Fagan (Ashton) the others returning for a second crack at interpro glory, following last year’s third-placed finish. Institute’s Kate Brosnahan and Midleton College’s Hattie Durrant will battle it out for the goalkeeper’s smock, while Bandon Grammar defender Karen Coombes will take on the vice-catpain’s role in a team represented by schools from Cork, Limerick and Tipperary. MUNSTER U16 2010/11: Acacia Taylor (Bandon Grammar/Cork Harlequins, capt); Alex O’Grady (Ashton/Cork C of I); Clio Cogan (Scoil Mhuire/Cork C of I); Clodagh Moloney (Crescent/Catholic Institute); Edel Nyland (Ursulines Thurles); Eimear Ryan (Laurel Hill Coláiste); Georgina Lee (Bandon Grammar); Hattie Durrant (GK, Midleton College); Karen Coombes (Bandon Grammar/Cork C of I, vice-capt); Kate Brosnahan (GK, Laurel Hill Secondary/Catholic Institute); Kate Harvey (St Anglea’s/Ashton); Laura Buttimer (Bandon Grammar/Bandon); Michelle Egan (Scoil Mhuire/Cork C of I); Orla Lynch (Ursulines Thurles); Pamela Wolfe (Midleton College/Cork C of I); Sarah Collery (Laurel Hill Coláiste); Shauna Fagan (Mount Mercy/Ashton); Sinead Houston (Bandon Grammar/Bandon).
