SENIOR B GIRLS CUP: The Munster Senior B Schoolgirls Cup remains frustratingly out of reach for Regina Mundi College after they lost a decider by the odd goal in three for the second successive year.
Villiers School staged a classic smash-and-grab raid to win 2-1 in Cork, taking full advantage of a seven-minute spell which was their sole purple patch in the game.
Munster U18 and U21 goalkeeper Kate Healy had proven an immovable object under pressure for Villiers with a string of top saves, but she could do nothing about a sweet team move that saw Alex Duboy score at the back post for Regina early in the second half.
But back came the Limerick school, with Holly Redden turning well and planting a shot to the sideboard before Grace Tutty swivelled to convert a rebound from their only short corner of the second half.
It made up for Villiers’ loss to Bandon Grammar in the senior A boys final but piled on the misery for Regina, who lost last year’s decider 2-1 to Sacred Heart Clonakilty.

Will Bartley’s charges were never in trouble against a strong Ashton side at the Cork city school’s grounds, keeping them pinned in their half for long periods as Calum Crowley pilfered an early opener.
Ben Shanahan set up a goal for Ethan Twomey and scored one himself for a 3-0 half-time lead, but Ashton’s best period earned them a sweet deflection from Stephen Jermyn to bring them back into it.
But with Jennings twins David and Matthew dominating midfield, Bandon surged clear again, Shanahan teeing up Crowley to deflect home before Ben Kingston potted the fifth to complete a senior and junior cup double.
JUNIOR A GIRLS CUP: Crescent completed a “double double” as their juniors added the cup to the league crown and the same titles won by their seniors with a 2-0 victory over a game Bandon Grammar side.
This was a brilliantly open encounter with both sides probing the circle at will, but Crescent through Jenny Clein, Aebhfhinn Bourke and Niamh O’Keeffe carved out the better openings.
A dozen short corners went begging for them in the first half though, and with Aoife Roche and Ingrid Burns pulling the strings, Bandon missed the best chance of the game with a fresh-air at the back post with the goal gaping early in the second half.
Crescent made them pay with an “out and in” short corner allowing O’Keeffe to flick home, before another set-piece was switched eight for Bourke to clatter to the corner and make the game safe.
JUNIOR A GIRLS PLATE: Kaitlyn O’Callaghan and Hillary O’Donovan were Regina Mundi’s heroes as they edged Laurel Hill Coláiste on penalty strokes at Rosbrien following a 1-1 draw.
O’Donovan capitalised on a defensive error to slot home a first-half opener, but Coláiste gradually became the game’s dominant force through Roisin Howard and Roisin Begley and earned a deserved equaliser from Maeve Donnellan early in the second half.
But they found Munster U16 netminder O’Callaghan in unforgiving form thereafter, making a number of top saves to keep Regina in it. The Douglas girls played on the break with Emma Geraghty, Alex Duboy and Alice Hickey having big roles but they couldn’t score the handful of corners they won and it went the distance.
In the shootout, O’Callaghan saved three of the four Coláiste strokes with her twin sister Rebecca O’Callaghan and Duboy landing their efforts, before O’Donovan netted the clinching stroke.
