Newtown School claimed their first A-level schoolboys trophy in over 20 years this week, beating Midleton College 2-0 in the Kukri Ireland First Year A Cup final in east Cork.

Midleton came flying out of the traps but found Peter Yaciuk-O’Connor in unforgiving form at centre-back and couldn’t find a way through.
The game turned on a couple of interventions two minutes apart from Newtown skipper Ben Johnson and Sacha O’Neill. Johnson twice turned the ball over and slide passes through to O’Neill, who finished with aplomb on both occasions.
The second half was one-way traffic with Midleton pushing hard to work a way back into the game but Thomas Drayton in the Newtown goal wasn’t for budging and the east Cork school ran out of time.
What was the last A level silverware Newtown won?
