Stephen Teap celebrated his return to hockey after a two-year absence by finding the net as Cork Harlequins recorded an emphatic 5-1 friendly win over Dubliners in a pre-season friendly at Harlequin Park today.
The sides had already crossed swords in the morning, finishing honours even after they shared six goals, with John Hobbs, Dan Hobbs and Brian Hayes-Curtin on target for the hosts while the ‘Town replied with an Ian Allen brace and a Zack Dutton effort.
But Quins – for whom Stuart Egner has replaced the long-serving Donal Kingston in the manager’s hotseat – bossed the afternoon game. Teap and Paul Lombard struck in the first half, with Andrew Woods replying for the visitors, but another Lombard effort pushed things out to 3-1 after the break.
With Quins beginning to dominate, John Hobbs killed off the tie with two booming drag-flicks to give coach Stephen Dale plenty of reasons for optimism ahead of next weekend’s pre-season festival at Three Rock Rovers. Quins will also host their annual vets festival on the same weekend.

so are you saying monkstown aren’t a good side? they are in the ihl and made it to the irish senior cup final two years ago, seem like a decent side to me. o ya im forgetting that you ci players think ye are the best in the country, clearly proven by how well you have done in the last few years, oh wait ye have won nothing big, my bad!
Monkstown are a good side and have done well in the last few years but lets not forget it was a pre season game.Im sure both teams were missing players and teams can never be judged by pre season games. As for Quins they will compete for the next few years but can’t see them winning an Ihl or Isc. Once the Lombards and the two Blacks retire they will struggle to even finish second in Munster as they have very little youth coming up. As for Ci If they decide to get there act together they could win an Ihl or Isc. With the players they have there a match for anyone but have always failed to deliver on the big stage.
To be fair, Monkstwon were a little understrength, as maybe were Quins, you can’t really tell much from preseason friendlies.
I hope the Quins/CI thing of petty comments on blogs like this doesn’t raise its ugly head again. Both Quins and CI have similar records in Munster in the last few years and right now maybe CI are slightly ahead in terms of Munster but neither side really did anything in the IHL last year and this coming from a player who doesn’t have any association with either club.

Both C of I and Quins could potentially struggle inthe IHL and ISC as they do not have the strength in depth. Both sides train very hard and are inventive in their play.
Quins will not get hosed by anyone as they have grit and fight in their make up.
The C of I players know that they are not the best in the country.
As a supporter of the game i am totally fed up with continual bickering between the clubs in Munster and especially C of I and Quins. It is unnecessary and actually a pain in the neck.
You can’t read too much into pre-season matches. They are useful for working on match fitness, trying out new players & new systems and as a opportunity for players to catch a coaches eye. Quins will really be up against it this season as their squad is getting older and they have very few players coming through. They still have the ability to produce big performances but not consistently. I’ve heard that they have lost some players from last seasons squad & they already have injury problems.
Enough of this Ci/Quins debate in a few years Belvedere will be back with hayes at the helm to become the new top dog in Munster!!!With ex Ucc student also an International curling player for Ireland Alan Good as player coach we should have no problems!!!He brings a wealth of experience and we are delighted to have him on board;)

Its a sad state of affairs when CI players are reduced to slagging off and impersonating Belvedere players and shows the childishness that exists in the blue half of the big two. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
Its a bit of fun and only a bit of friendly banter!!!GET OVER IT
Ok lets talk about history Irish senior cups CI 4-1 Quins one,we ve won more league titles then you,we ve a way better pitch,we ve youth coming through in the club you ve nothing ye just TRY and rob our players instead I could go on all day
Children please GROW UP. I am at C of I and I see no point in a post like the last one.
The province needs to be pulling together not BICKERING. The sport is dying and this sort of behavior is not HELPING.
