U16 sides share English series

Ireland’s U16 boys and girls shared their respective series with England this weekend, both ending with a win, draw and loss to their names in Lilleshall.

Alexandra College schoolgirl Anna Roopnarinesingh hoovered up a short corner rebound to give the Irish girls a 1-0 win over the hosts on Saturday, before drawing 0-0 on Sunday. However, their five-game unbeaten run came to an end in Monday’s clash, a Megan Crowson strike in each half giving England a 2-0 win. The boys lost 3-1 on Saturday amid a flurry of first-half English goals before Luke Madeley got one back. But they hit back yesterday to draw 2-2, with Cork C of I tyro Alex Burns converting a corner rebound while Andrew Ramsey’s field goal had Ireland in front, only for Guy Mills  to rocket home his second drag-flick  of the day to save the hosts’ blushes. And Ireland finished on a high on Monday with a 2-1 win, coming from a goal down as captain Madeley nailed one from play and another trademark corner.
