Hi all,
Despite repeated warnings, people continue to submit comments that are distasteful, offensive, overly personal and, at times, defamatory. It’s one thing to go on a forum and slate Cristiano Ronaldo, but hockey is a small world and what’s said over a pint becomes a lot more serious when it’s posted in public.
As owner of the site I must take responsibility for everything on here, even if I didn’t write it. The last thing I want is for Southern Fried to follow Planet Field Hockey to the grave, but a nastier element has crept into the comments in recent months.
Therefore, I’ll be taking a far stronger stance regarding comment moderation from now on, for the sake of the future well-being of this website. Participation from the wider hockey community is a vital and welcome element of the site, and can help effect real change, but it must be constructive and progressive.
Hockey is an amateur sport that requires volunteerism at all levels to help the game run smoothly. My way of contributing to the hockey community was to set up and maintain this website in my own free time; I hope I can continue to do so without having to negotiate legal minefields every day.

The site is welcomed and a fantastic addition to the press Munster Hockey recieves already. Congratulations to you for providing it and I think it is badly needed, but as you said we don’t want it to go the same way planet field hockey did.
If people want to leave comments let them be positive or at least have some constructive element with not the usual negative rubbish, at least provide solutions or an alternative option. If you want to broadcast your opinion put your name to it, don’t hide behind the ‘anon’. Have a back bone and put your name to your comment if thats what you feel.
The munster hockey scene is small enough, we all more than likely know each other from some stage and comments that have been posted help no-one but can have a huge negative effect on teams, players, clubs and coaches etc. If more people got up off their arse and helped just a little they might realise the effort that goes into running a Team, Club or Branch and be slow the bitch and moan about each and every liitle thing. If you have a problem get up and do something about it.

Just want to congratulate Alan on this excellent blog; it has kept me informed of all the various aspects of Munster hockey. Ultimately he has to take responsibility for everything written on the site, and he really doesn’t deserve the stress that comes with having to sift through masses of abusive comments. These types of comments contribute nothing to the sport. We have to learn that we don’t have the right to anonymously post whatever we feel like.
I hope Alan preserves with this excellent resource for Munster hockey, and we should do our best to support him.
I feel that this is a very much over the top reaction. No one wants abusive or personalised comments but there is a need for critical comment. I agree that personal attacks etc should not be published. However, there were some very sincere comments expressed on the matter & everyone should not be tarred with the one brush. To remove all comments on the selection of a Munster Senior squad is most definitely not the reaction one would expect. I agree that this is a very valuable resource & congratulate Alan on the very high level he has brought it to but we must not supress genuine comment and concern.
Just wanted to say that we in Munster Schoolgirls hockey are delighted with Southern Fried as it has really helped in promoting our leagues and cups. The photos are great and it also keeps the hockey followers informed of what has happened and the future fixtures. Please keep this going and cut out bringing personal comments into what is a great service Alan is providing.
