After a scoreless first half, Crescent’s short corners did the business for them. Niamh O’Keefe flicked a rebound into the top corner before Aine Ryan first-timed home from the injector spot. It means the Dooradoyle school have now claimed the four major trophies on offer in Munster, with their senior and juniors winning both league and cup. Just as impressively, it’s the third time in a row the juniors have won the double. The seniors will represent the province at the Kate Russell All-Ireland Schoolgirls Championships in Kilkenny next week. Elsewhere, Ashton are on course for a ‘double double’ of their own, having progressed to the junior boys final as well as the senior decider. They saw off a resolute Bandon Grammar side 2-0 in west Cork, Philip Brownlow potting a corner rebound in the first half before Simon Wolfe reversed home a wonderstrike from near the endline. As in the senior final, Villiers await in the decider, which will take place next Friday at a venue TBC. Two days previous, Bandon Grammar had held their nerve to advance to the semi-finals, converting all five of their penalty strokes in a shootout after a 1-1 draw with Midleton College. Munster U16 Declan Murphy scored for Midleton but Ethan Twomey replied for the hosts. Ali O’Shea’s double helped Regina Mundi make the senior B girls final with a notable 2-1 win away to Rockwell College, while an own goal proved the difference for Mount Mercy in their 2-1 senior pate semi-final win over Bandon Grammar. Laurene Buckley got the Model Farm Road school’s other goal to help them book a date next Wednesday with Ashton, which will precede the senior boys final at Garryduff.
